I remember not that long ago (probably just under a year - not sure), there was a topic about a virus/spyware/malware remover that was free and EXTREMELY effective, I'm 99% sure it was from here as I used to spend most of my time here - if not, does anyone know of one, a really good one, like..a run it once diagnostic one that rapes my pc of all it's nooks and crannies?

i have a couple different things i use:

AVGfree for virus
RootKitRevealer
UnHackMe
SpyBot Search & Destroy

google them babies, pretty sure they are all free

if you google "best free anti-spyware" and "best free virus detection" it gives u some gud tips

I use

ccleaner (crap cleaner)
super antispyware
malwarebytes anti spyware
adaware (from lavasoft)
AVG(like Tom)
spybot search and destroy (like Tom)

all the above are free downloads - but some have professional additions that you pay for so just make sure you download the free one

good download site is www.download.com
if u have a particular virus google it and the posts generally tell you what is best to use forthat particular virus and which order to run them in - I run them in the order shown above.

Oh and only run 1 at a time - not all together

The majority of them are bad, not all of them.

Safest option is AVG 8 though. Lots of free stuff!

AVG is limited on the free side and will not remove most spyware and maleware as it is a virus scanner. The spyware scanner they have is good by the malwarebytes is updated more often and takes out more crap.

If you want I can take a look at a hijackthis log if you scan your system with the tool. Save the text file and post it in this thread and I will see if anything nasty is hangin around.

Addition to the other posts a small hint to be saver on pc. Dont use an Administrator Account as a normal account.
Only surf or play as a "normal" user. Admin is only for maintenance or for installation work.
